I learned to draw from my mom, who drew fashionable women with elaborate hairdos on the backs of old envelopes while she talked on the phone. I retrieved them from the trash and made copies to see how she did it. In high school, I learned etching and lithography, and in college I learned to paint. I wound up teaching at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, painting, drawing, and etching, for a decade.
In 2006, I began collaborating with my husband, the comedian, Aaron Freeman, on political cartoons and book projects. In 2010, we published The Comic Torah. Since then, I've been working on autobiographical comics, several published in the Annals of Internal Medicine. See them HERE. Since 2014, I've been working on a graphic memoir, Drawn Together, the story of losing my mom to Alzheimer's Disease, but staying connected to her through drawing.
Jana Panarites did a wonderful podcast interview with me. You can hear it HERE.

Cartooning is a lonely business. I'd love to hear from you. Let me know if you find typos.
